The African Centre for Development Impact (ACDI), led by its Executive Director, Prof. Charles Amoatey, paid a courtesy call on Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, First Deputy Speaker of the Ghana’s 9th Parliament, to express appreciation for his role in the official launch of ACDI and to explore opportunities for strengthening the use of evidence within Parliament.
The engagement highlighted a critical insight: effective governance depends not only on the availability of data, but on how quickly and effectively it can be accessed and applied within decision-making processes.

During the discussions, Hon. Ahiafor highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen Parliament’s data ecosystem, including the development of a centralised infrastructure designed to provide Members of Parliament with real-time access to information. This initiative aims to support more informed legislative deliberations, from analysing economic trends to verifying claims during plenary sessions.

The meeting also identified key areas for collaboration between ACDI and Parliament, including:
- Integrating policy-relevant research into parliamentary data systems
- Strengthening the capacity of Members of Parliament and their research staff to interpret and apply evidence
- Supporting the Parliamentary Training Institute through targeted training and knowledge exchange

This engagement reflects ACDI’s broader commitment to strengthening the generation, translation and use of evidence in policymaking across Africa.
ACDI looks forward to deepening its collaboration with Parliament to advance evidence-informed decision-making in Ghana.
